Algarve spas, almost all in resorts

In the Algarve, almost every spa lives inside a resort. Lisbon and Porto have independent city spas. Here, most were built within large holiday complexes between Albufeira, Almancil, Lagos and Tavira. They were designed first for the people staying there.

That changes how you choose. Opening hours follow the rhythm of the resort, and the water areas tend to be generous. The rules for visitors from outside, though, vary a great deal and are not always clear.

We have gathered seven spas with information published on their official websites. Prices were checked in October 2026, and each figure links to its source. Where a spa does not publish prices, we say so. It is not a ranking, just a simple way to compare.

How to choose your spa

Start with what you are looking for. Some people want a whole morning between sauna, Turkish bath and heated pools. For them, the water circuit and access time matter most. Others simply want a good massage, so length, price and easy booking count.

  • Access for non-residents: some spas welcome visitors by appointment, others do not say. Confirm by phone or email before you travel.
  • Minimum age: several circuits only admit over-16s, which rules out families with younger children.
  • Real session length: many menus use 50-minute sessions rather than 60. It is a detail that matters when comparing prices.
  • Distance: the Algarve is long. A spa in Sagres or Monchique is a lengthy drive from Faro or Tavira.

Also check what is included. At some resorts, circuit access is free for guests and massages are charged separately. At others, daily access has its own price.

Seven spas, from Tavira to Sagres

Serenity – The Art of Well Being, Pine Cliffs Resort (Albufeira)

Set in Olhos de Água, east of Albufeira, Serenity is the Pine Cliffs resort spa. It has one of the most complete circuits in the region. Its Thermal Oasis brings together a herbal sauna, a Himalayan salt sauna, a steam room and a Kneipp pool. There is also a hydrotherapy pool at 28ºC, an outdoor jacuzzi and an ice fountain, with a minimum age of 16 (source).

The Relax Massage costs 130 € for 50 minutes and 165 € for 80 minutes (source), the highest prices in this guide. The website does not say whether people not staying at the resort can book. It suits adults who want a long water circuit with their massage. They value the whole experience more than the price.

Vale do Lobo Royal Spa (Almancil)

Inside the Vale do Lobo resort, near Almancil, the Royal Spa has a pool, a hammam and a sauna. It opens daily from 10:00 to 19:00, always by appointment. The Relaxing Massage costs 99 € for 50 minutes and 111 € for 65 minutes (source).

Daily access to the facilities costs 20 € for one person and 32 € for a couple (source). The price list does not state explicitly whether non-residents can buy it. It is a balanced choice if you are based around Loulé and Almancil. You get water facilities at a moderate price and a mid-range massage.

Caldas de Monchique Villa Termal & Spa Resort (Monchique)

Up in the hills, this spa builds on the village's old thermal tradition, with a thermal pool, a sauna and a Turkish bath. The menu publishes separate prices for visitors, which is unusual in the region. The circuit costs 25 € for 90 minutes and 35 € for 150 minutes. The 50-minute Relaxation Massage costs 75 € for visitors (source).

It suits anyone who wants a day away from the beach, with thermal water at the centre. It is also the most clearly priced circuit in this guide. Allow for the drive up into the hills, especially from the eastern Algarve.

Cascade Spa, Cascade Wellness Resort (Lagos)

In Lagos, Cascade Spa has a heated outdoor spa pool, a sauna, a jacuzzi and an ice fountain, and admits over-16s. It is one of the few spas in the region that clearly welcomes people who are not staying there. Non-guests can book treatments or a Day Spa pass of up to three hours, 24 hours in advance (source). The price of that day pass is not published.

The 60-minute Relaxing Massage costs 90 € (source), for a full hour on the table. It is a good option if you are in the western Algarve, in Lagos or nearby. You get a 60-minute massage at a spa with transparent access rules.

AP Maria Nova Lounge (Tavira)

In Tavira, the AP Maria Nova Lounge spa has a sauna, a Turkish bath, a whirlpool and a heated indoor pool. These facilities are free for guests, while massages are charged separately (source). The website does not make clear whether visitors can use the spa.

The Massagem Relax costs 70 € for 50 minutes, with a 25-minute version at 50 € and an 80-minute version at 85 € (source). These are the lowest prices in this guide. It appeals if you are holidaying in the eastern Algarve and want a session without a large outlay.

SAYANNA Wellness & Spa, EPIC SANA Algarve (Albufeira)

Near Falésia beach in Albufeira, SAYANNA has five treatment rooms and a Vichy shower. There is also a pavilion where two people can be treated at the same time, a sauna, a steam bath and a heated indoor pool. It opens from 10:00 to 20:00 (source). No prices are published on the official website, so you need to ask for the menu directly.

It suits anyone already staying around Albufeira who wants a spa with several rooms. The indoor water facilities are handy outside the beach season.

Finisterra Spa, Martinhal Sagres (Sagres)

At the far south-western tip of the country, the Finisterra Spa at Martinhal Sagres has an unusually family-oriented approach. It offers parent-and-child massages and facials for teenagers (source). Here too, no prices are published.

It is the spa in this guide most clearly designed for families. Across the region, several circuits set a minimum age of 16. If you are travelling with children and want to include them, contact the spa before planning your visit.

What the prices tell you

At the spas with published prices, a massage of around 50 minutes costs between 70 € and 130 €. The difference comes mainly from each resort's positioning and from what surrounds the massage. A circuit like Serenity's, with several saunas and pools, is reflected in the price of the treatment.

Look at session length too. Four of the five spas with published prices use 50-minute sessions, and only Cascade lists a 60-minute massage. Worked out per hour of actual hands-on time, the order of the list can change.

When the massage comes to you

A resort spa is the better choice when the water is what you want: the circuit, the sauna, the heated pool on a winter afternoon. When the massage is what you want, the sums change. After a day at the beach or on the golf course, going out again is hard work. The drive there and back can undo part of the rest.

At home, the session ends and the sofa is right there. It works well in a holiday home or holiday rental. It suits families who would rather not fit spa times around children's routines, and couples or friends who prefer to stay in one place.

In Vilamoura or Faro, where none of these spas is located, a session at home saves the journey. A fuller comparison of the two formats is in our guide to home massage vs spa.

On price, a 60-minute massage at home can cost less than the reference massage at three of the five spas with published prices. And travel is already included. On the other hand, you lose the water circuit, which has no substitute at home. Many people combine the two: one spa day during the holiday and massages at home on the other days.

RHEA in the Algarve, at your door

RHEA brings the massage to you in Faro, Olhão, Loulé, Almancil, Albufeira, Vilamoura, Quarteira, Lagos, Portimão, Alvor and Tavira. We are available every day from 7am to 10pm, and every session ends by 10pm. Sessions of 60, 75 and 90 minutes cost 85, 99 and 115 €, with travel included. The price you see is the price you pay.

We bring everything: a professional table, hot towels, linens, hypoallergenic oils and ambient music. Your body stays covered with professional sheets throughout the session. You can choose Swedish, deep tissue, sports, pre-natal or couples massage.

The couples massage costs 170, 198 and 230 € with one person after the other. With two therapists at the same time, it costs 187, 218 and 253 €. Our therapists are certified, and RHEA assigns the therapist available for your area and time. So it is not possible to choose the therapist or their gender.

Book at www.rhea.pt/booking/en, even for the same day, with 4 hours' notice. Plans change: you can cancel or reschedule at no cost up to 24 hours before, while inside 24 hours the session is charged.
